This is my friend April. April and I met while I was on in-center hemodialysis in North Fort Myers and when I switched over to Peritoneal she would come take some of the empty boxes off of my hands. She is the sweetest little lady you could ever hope to meet, the kinda gal that would gladly give you the shirt right off her back and she is going through some real hard times right now. On June 30th April was placed on the National waitlist for a kidney/pancreas transplant and unexpectedly within just 24 short hours she received the call...finally she was going to be free from dialysis! In a whirlwind April and her family made their way up to Tampa General Hospital where she underwent surgery and both organs were transplanted. April was ecstatic and looking forward to her new lease on life! Unfortunately that excitement quickly turned to concern when complications arose and April began to reject the pancreas. Due to her suppressed immune system she also developed a blood infection and became septic. It has now been 8 long weeks since the initial transplant surgery and she has had to endure several surgeries since to clear out the infection. Her sister and husband have been by her side every day but it is getting hard on them even with taking turns driving back and forth because it is 4 hours round trip. April has a long road ahead of her and she needs our help now more than ever. She is having to relearn how to eat and walk so the last thing she should be worrying about is how to pay for it all! If you can find it in your heart to give something, anything, it would be greatly appreciated. Click on any of April's pictures to be taken to her Facebook Fundraiser page where you can make a contribution toward her medical expenses. Thank you and God bless!
